The Entrance to the Overture

The entrance to the overture. I still need to investigate what happened to the indoors floor.

Digital Sets: The Horn District

I've been working on The Horn District set over the last few days and I think it's come out rather nicely. I tried my best to imitate the camera angles as seen in the animatic/pre-vis...this set is now ready to be textured.

Trombone and Tuba: Building the Interior

The interior of the trombone and tuba district is slowly coming together. I am, however, unsure about the big, empty space in the middle - should that be populated by buildings as well? Or left the for little Reds and Yellows as the royal notes enter?

Digital Sets: The Viola District

I've finally returned and finished The Viola District. I initially had to model and figure out the basin and the 'wire waterfalls' but I think it's turned out quite nicely. Now with all of the buildings in place it's ready to be textured and brought to life.

Digital Sets: The Cello District Continued

The Cello District digital set is now assembled (and looks quite pretty with its textures already applied). Peta-gaye Brown (CAA Class of 2015) created the initial space and layout of the Cello set before being sent off to be textured. I then augmented the textured set to populated it some more to prepare it for the pre-vis and so on.

Trombone and Tuba: Building the Set 01

Few screenshoots from the Trombone and Tuba district. This is the first set I am putting together so the more feedback the better. I also apologize for not providing actual renders but something is not working properly in my Maya and I need to investigate.

Digital Set: The Harp District

I have constructed The Harp District where Red is lifted up to a terrace atop a giant harp in the centre. He then takes in the view of the entire district around him.

Digital Sets: The Clarinet District - Street Scenes #1 & #2

I've begun to construct some scenes for The Clarinet District. Both of these sets are built for some close-up scenes of Red and Yellow as they chase each other around the streets. Street Scene #1 also contains the entrance into The Bassoon District.

Digital Sets: The Overture #3

The Overture requited a bit of extra work as it was lacking the platform/doors where Red enters The Overture. Using the full dome, I cut out a hole for the platform and I added some walls to clean it up. I also added a few little details, rebuilt the doors, and added controls to the doors for convenience. The dome is also split in half so each half can be toggled on and to make lighting and setting up cameras easier.

Digital Sets: The Oboe District

The Oboe District's set is now (hopefully) complete and ready to progress onto being textured. The river, buildings and bridges took quite a bit of tweaking, but it got there in the end!

YPGTTO - The Joy Of Collaboration

Just wanted to share this recap of some of the creative goings-on here on planet YPGTTO in celebration of the joys of collaboration. The scale and ambition of producing seventeen minutes of animation to accompany live performances of Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra demands we collaborate effectively.  The visualisation and realisation of The Overture - the first of our animation's fantastical environments - has seen graduates collaborating with current students, and current students with staff - with exciting results!

Digital Sets: The violin District

Some Screen shots from the main Violin District block out. Still need to put some paraphernalia like signs in place then it should be good to go.

Digital Sets: The Overture #3

Some of the objects in The Overture set needed to be updated so they wouldn't collapse in smooth preview mode. I also added the striped to the centre orb and some lines in the roads, so hopefully it's now ready to go.
