YPGTTO: The Trumpet District Texture & Compositing Test Update 2
The Trumpet District: Straight out of Maya
The Trumpet District: Basic Composite
A small tweak to the road pattern.
YPGTTO: The Trumpet District Texture & Compositing Test Update
The Trumpet District: Option 1
The Trumpet District: Option 2
A few experiments adding details to the road and choosing sky colours. There is not much difference between these options. Mainly the road pattern is slightly more noticeable and there is less orange in the sky.
Note: These are images straight out of Maya with no compositing.

YPGTTO: The Trumpet District Texture & Compositing Test
The Trumpet District Shot 1: Straight out of Maya
The Trumpet District Shot 1: Basic Composite
A start to texturing the Trumpet District. This is very much in the early stages and doesn't contain a defined sky dome yet.

Environment/ Asset Design- Lots of Signage!
Embarking on some of the last few pieces of District furniture. I needed to finish the signs preceding a few of the Districts.
Following Red's fall down the stairs to the Double-Bass District, he scrambled to his feet and is faced with Design number 2
Later, after his ascent from the Double Bass District, Red finds himself on the precipice of the Harp District. A few lovely little birds fly by, carrying Signage Design 1 to inform him of his place in the world.
Directly behind Red is the Horn District. The squiggly spaghetti like structure of design number 5 will be the Horn District Sign he will see. Shortly afterward, he sets off with steely resolve to find the summoning light in the distance.
A while later Red finds himself caught up in a stampede of fellow notes as they all speed towards the summoning light in the distance. It puts both Red and the Trumpet District sign in a bit of a spin!
The design was supposed to point in the direction of the district. The first sheet of designs I focused on creating it entirely from Trumpet elements. However they didn't communicate direction very well at all. So in sheet two I took a more obvious approach and we settled on design number 5.

Finally the Percussion District. Red arrives in spectacular fashion, delivered by the hook of a crane to find himself in the middle of a Construction site.
The Percussion section is comprised of multiple instruments, unlike the others. Initial sign designs were therefore a mix of instruments. As I struggled to nail it down, it was highlighted that I had missed the most obvious connection. Triangles are well known for warning and caution signs, so that was the instrument I then fixed on to complete the Percussion District signage.

Environment/Asset Design- Trumpet and Violin District
I started to try to build taller lankier structures in regard to the trumpets. I'm not sure I fully achieved the look but the experiments were still fun.
The page below was an attempt at creating distant background structures that could be copy-pasted en-masse. I went back to the trumpet after trying to create bridge elements for the Violin district and finding I'm getting caught up in details and struggling with ideas. I think attempting something entirely based in simplicity has helped relax my brain a little.
'If a violin produces its music from its strings- and strings can lead an entire orchestra- then lines, wires, and rails as thrumming, vibrating conduits for energy, power and momentum is very much the signature image of the Violin District.'
My initial Violin bridge designs may be a little too detailed. The district needs to consist of predominantly simple elements, similar to Trumpets 11-13 above, as Red whizzes by on the train.
Next time I may just stick with a silhouette and an outline to insinuate various shapes for layering up. I also need to tackle these designs from different perspectives and include a multitude of levels.
I like the idea of creating bridges that climb... (or decline) perhaps incorporating cable-cars and funicular railways? Hopefully I can mix the violins curves and straight strings into an interesting multi-levelled environment.

Environment/Asset Design- The Trumpet District
'...we see the long thin trumpet-structures whizzing past the riders; we see Yellow's determined little face. We see Red holding onto her for dear life!'
I've moved onto explore the Trumpet district. This one passes by in a bit of a flash in terms of the script as Red and Yellow fly through on horseback. But the emphasis was on tall buildings that dwarf them as they whizz by. I think I could probably go taller and lankier perhaps. I just don't want to lose the building essence as opposed to accidentally creating what look like sculptures!
I took a different approach with these designs. I'd decided to stick with using white line art over black. I also remembered reading in the script the description of 'chalky' texture and decided to apply it to my latest designs. These Trumpet-based structures are a mix of rough edged colouring or outlined in 'chalk'. The colour schemes have been slightly saturated to suit the time of day as the sun dips lower on the horizon.
